Can You Escape Edinburgh: Operation Odyssey

Our final game in Edinburgh saw us head to Can You Escape, to take on Operation Odyssey…

“As space cadets on the International Space Station you must race against time to ensure you fix the escape pod before it’s too late. Houston received your distress call and has concluded that it was a meteor shower that struck the main ship a short time ago. The escape pod has also been damaged so you must first restore all of the systems before attempting an escape.

Cadets, you need to hurry! The next meteor shower is predicted to strike in an hour so there is no room for error!”

Operation Odyssey at Can You Escape Edinburgh

The game starts in the corridor to the escape pod, taking on a couple of smaller puzzles to open up the main part of the game. Once in the actual pod, the theming took a big step up. The pod looks fantastic – it’s very well done, and looked high tech enough to add immersion.

The actual game itself was a lot of fun to play. To get the escape pod restored, you have to restore eight systems, which means you can split up and work on different puzzles, each of which are a lot of fun. There were paper based puzzles, and physical, crystal maze type challenges – the perfect mix. Also hidden in the room are power cells, with you needing to top up the pod’s energy levels to keep the lights on.

Once you get to the end of the game and you think it’s all over, you’re suddenly hit with a twist, and a very fun twist at that. Overall, a well themed, enjoyable game. A team of two enthusiasts should crack this easily, newbies take four.

Host: Our game was hosted by Charlie. She seemed to love her job, and added a lot of immersion and fun to the game.
Clue System: Clues were delivered by walkie talkie
Success? Yes, with the help of a few clues, we made it out.

  1. A great end to a brilliant day and fantastic time overall.

Host Charlie was lovely and played her part well. There’s a clever ah-ha moment in the first part, just as we were starting to get stuck…. then into the pod itself. The room was themed very well and I liked how non-linear it was…normally I prefer puzzles to lead to another but this was so much fun and done very well. Reminded me of how Spellbound at Make Your Escape in Derby works. Several ah-ha moments in here too and a good mix of puzzles and nothing too taxing. Enjoyed having to power up the lights by adding power cells, thought that may have been annoying during the game brief but it’s a nice added touch.

As for the last puzzle😁 what fun! Ok, maybe it doesn’t just quite fit with the theming but what the back…loved it!
